🚨Storm damage right now? Call (239) 832-1866. We answer 24/7.

If your garage door is bowed, blown in, off its track or will not close, the house is not secure and — depending on the damage — may not be structurally sound. Do not operate the door. Call us and we will get there.

After a major event, demand across Collier County spikes hard within hours. We prioritise in this order:

  1. πŸ”΄Door blown in or stuck open — house not secure
  2. πŸ”΄Door off track and unstable — risk of the door coming down
  3. 🟠Door will not close — contents exposed
  4. 🟑Panel damage, door still operable

Storm damage? Get us on the way now.

If the house is open, say so when you call — you go to the front of the queue. Nights, weekends and holidays included.

First: do not operate the door

The single most expensive post-storm mistake.

After a storm, the most expensive mistake we see is someone hitting the opener button to “check if it still works.”

If the door is bowed, out of track, or the springs are compromised, cycling it can:

  • Drop the door
  • Strip the opener gear — turning a $400 job into a $900 one
  • Tear the top section off the track
  • Injure whoever is standing under it

Leave it where it is. If you need the car out, pull the emergency release with the door down, and lift by hand only if two people can do it comfortably. If it feels heavy, stop — that means the springs are gone and the full weight is on you.

What storms actually do to a garage door

Understanding this helps you talk to your adjuster — and tells you whether you are looking at a repair or a replacement.

⬇️Inward bowing (positive pressure)

Wind pushes on the face of the door. The centre of each section flexes inward. If the struts, or the door's rated design pressure, are exceeded, the section deforms permanently.

How to spot it: stand inside, look along the door from the side, with a light. A bowed section will be visibly concave. Often the door still opens and closes normally, which is exactly why people miss it.

⚠️This is the one people ignore, and it is the one that matters most. A bowed section has lost its rated strength. It will fail in the next storm at a lower wind speed than it survived this time.

⬆️Outward suction (negative pressure)

Less intuitive but often more destructive. As wind passes over the house it creates suction, which pulls the door outward and can lift it clean out of the track. Corner lots and end-of-street houses see this worst, along with anything facing a long open fetch — a canal, a golf course, a preserve.

πŸ’₯The catastrophic case β€” the door blows in

This is why we keep saying the garage door is the most important opening on the house.

When a garage door fails in a hurricane, wind enters the garage and pressurises the building from inside. That internal pressure pushes up on the roof at the same moment the wind outside is lifting it. That is how roofs come off.

If your door blew in, the damage is almost never limited to the door. Have the roof structure, the header and the jambs looked at as well — and say so to your adjuster.

πŸͺ¨Impact damage

Debris — roof tile, branches, a neighbour's patio furniture, a trash bin. Punctures and dents. If glazing is broken, the opening is no longer protected and the door no longer meets the standard it was approved under.

πŸ’§Water and the aftermath

Flooded garages rust hardware, seize rollers, corrode the opener's logic board and destroy bottom seals. Damage from salt water is worse and faster than fresh — and storm surge in Naples is salt.

Even if the door works the week after, expect failures 2 to 6 months later if it was submerged. If the opener sat in water at all, do not plug it back in.

What we do

πŸ›‘οΈEmergency securing, same day

If the house is open we secure it first — temporary bracing, board-up, or getting the door back into track and locked down so you are not leaving a home or a business exposed overnight. Repair comes second. Security comes first.

πŸ”Full damage assessment

Every section, the track, the rollers, the cables, the springs, the header, the jambs and the opener. We check whether the door is still at its rated design pressure or whether it has become a liability that will fail in the next event.

πŸ“·Documentation for your insurance claim

This is the part most companies skip, and it is worth real money to you.

We provide:

  • πŸ“·Dated photographs of every damaged component
  • πŸ“‹A written itemised assessment of what failed and why
  • πŸ“„The door's Florida Product Approval number and rated design pressure, where we can identify it from the data plate
  • πŸ”§A line-item repair-versus-replace estimate

Adjusters approve documented claims faster, and they approve replacement rather than patch-repair far more often when the file shows the door has lost its rated capacity.

ℹ️We are a garage door contractor, not a public adjuster, and we do not negotiate your claim for you. What we do is hand you an evidence file your adjuster can act on.

βš–οΈRepair or replace β€” the honest version

Repair makes sense if…Replace makes sense if…
One or two panels are dented but not bowed
Track and hardware are sound
Door is under roughly 15 years old
Matching sections are still in production
Any section is bowed or creased
The door came out of track under load
The door is not wind-rated
The model is discontinued and sections cannot be matched

We will tell you which. If a repair is genuinely the right call we will do the repair, even though the replacement is the bigger invoice.

⬆️Upgrade while you are already replacing

If the door is coming off anyway, this is the moment to go to a properly wind-rated one:

  • βœ…It may qualify for the My Safe Florida Home grant — garage doors explicitly qualify as opening protection
  • βœ…It can earn a wind mitigation insurance credit — opening protection is one of six features on Florida form OIR-B1-1802
  • βœ…It carries our 7-year warranty
  • βœ…We handle the permit, the Florida Product Approval paperwork and the final inspection

Getting ready before the next one

Everything below is cheaper than an emergency call in September.

πŸ“…Before the season β€” do this in May, not August

  • πŸ”§Have the door inspected before June. Springs, cables, rollers, track, and the reinforcement struts
  • πŸ”©Check your bracing kit. If you have a temporary bracing system, make sure the floor brackets are actually installed and you know where the posts are
  • ⚑Battery-backup opener. Power will go. A backup means you can still move a 200 lb door
  • πŸ“ΈPhotograph your door now, undamaged, including the data plate on the inside of a section. It makes a claim dramatically easier
  • πŸ”ŒKnow where to unplug the opener if flooding is possible

πŸŒ€Ahead of a named storm

  • Close and lock the door
  • Install bracing if you have it
  • Move anything valuable off the garage floor — at least onto shelving
  • Unplug the opener if surge or water is likely
  • 🚫Do not tape the door. It does nothing. It has never done anything.
  • πŸš—Parking a vehicle against the inside of the door is a last resort — it can help, and it can also mean a destroyed car

Frequently Asked Questions

My door still opens after the storm. Do I need it looked at?

Yes. Inward bowing is the most commonly missed storm damage, and a bowed section has lost its rated strength β€” it will fail earlier next time, at a lower wind speed. Look along the door from the side, from inside, with a light. If any section is not flat, have it assessed.

Will my insurance cover garage door storm damage?

Windstorm damage to a garage door is typically a covered peril on Florida homeowners policies, subject to your hurricane deductible β€” which is usually a percentage of the dwelling coverage rather than a flat figure. Coverage and deductibles vary by policy, so confirm with your carrier. What we can do is document the damage properly so your adjuster has what they need.

How fast can you come out after a storm?

We run 24/7 and we prioritise homes that are not secure. After a major event, demand across Collier County spikes hard within hours β€” call as early as you can, and tell us plainly if the house is open.

Can you just replace one damaged panel?

Sometimes. If the section is dented but not bowed or creased, the track is sound and the model is still in production, yes. If it is bowed, or the door came out of track under load, replacing one panel leaves you with a door that is no longer at its rated strength β€” which is a false economy.

Do I need a permit for a storm replacement?

Yes. Florida requires a permit for virtually all garage door replacements, including like-for-like. We handle the permit, the Florida Product Approval documentation and the final inspection.

Is Naples in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone?

No. Only Miami-Dade and Broward are HVHZ. You do not need a Miami-Dade NOA in Collier County β€” what is required here is statewide Florida Product Approval. A lot of local companies get this wrong on their own websites.

Can a new door lower my insurance premium?

It can. Opening protection is one of six features inspected on the Florida wind mitigation form, OIR-B1-1802. You would need a wind mitigation inspection to claim it, but on a door you are replacing anyway, the recurring annual credit changes the maths considerably.

The garage flooded but the door works. Am I fine?

Probably not, and probably not yet. Salt water corrodes cables and springs from the inside and destroys opener electronics on a delay. If the opener sat in water, do not plug it back in. Expect problems 2 to 6 months out and get it inspected now rather than then.

What does storm repair cost?

A single dented section runs $250 to $800. Track and roller work after an off-track event, $150 to $400. A full impact-rated replacement is $1,000 to $2,500 single-car and $2,500 to $6,000 double-car, permitted and inspected. We give you a flat written price on site and the documentation for your claim either way.

Do you work during and immediately after a hurricane?

We do not send crews out while conditions are still dangerous β€” no responsible company does. We answer the phone throughout, log your job, and we are moving the moment it is safe to be on the road, with the houses that are open going first.

Storm damage? We answer 24/7 and we secure the house first.

One Damaged Section, or the Whole Door?
