Dented, bowed or rusted-through section in Naples? Sometimes one panel is the right repair and sometimes it is money thrown at a door that has already failed. We price both, honestly.
Five questions decide it
Is a matching section still manufactured? Manufacturers discontinue models and change panel profiles, embossing and colour formulations, so doors older than roughly ten to fifteen years often have no match available. Will the colour match, after Florida UV has worked on the rest of the door for years? How many sections are affected — one is a repair conversation, three or more and the maths stops working. Does the repair keep the door rated, if it carries a Florida Product Approval? And why did it fail?
That last question is the important one
A section damaged by a car bumper is an accident, and replacing it makes complete sense. A section that rusted through, delaminated or cracked at the stiles failed because of age and environment — and its neighbours are the same age in the same environment on the same springs. Replacing one is buying a few months.
The bottom section, which is the Naples special
Water sits along the bottom rail and corrodes it from the inside, so the first thing you see is bubbling paint rather than a hole. It matters more than it looks because the bottom section carries the bottom brackets, and those are under direct cable tension. Corroded steel around a bottom bracket is a safety problem, not a cosmetic one.
Our rule of thumb
If the panel cost plus labour approaches roughly half the price of a new insulated impact-rated door, replace the door. You spend a little more once instead of a lot twice, and you get the wind rating, the insurance documentation and the seven-year warranty.

When One Panel Can Be Replaced and When It Cannot

A single dented section is usually worth replacing on its own — if the model is still in production and the stamping still matches. Where it stops making sense is a door old enough that the panel profile has been discontinued, or one where the impact bent the track and the hinges as well: at that point the replacement panel costs more than it saves and still will not sit flush. We identify the manufacturer and the series from the inside of the door before quoting anything, and we tell you honestly which of the two you are looking at. If it turns out to be the second, see new garage doors and off-track repair, or call (239) 832-1866.
How the job runs
- Identify the door — manufacturer, model, section profile, gauge, insulation, colour and any product approval number.
- Confirm a matching section genuinely exists and is orderable before you commit to anything.
- Assess the rest of the door: springs, cables, rollers, hinges, track, bottom brackets and balance.
- Secure the door and release stored energy safely.
- Remove and replace the section, renewing hinges, rollers and end stiles as required.
- Re-balance the door — a new section rarely weighs exactly what the old one did.
- Verify the replacement section is covered by the same product approval on a rated door.
- Re-set the opener and test both safety systems.
- Lubricate and hand over.
What it costs
| Job | Typical installed price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Single non-insulated steel section, installed | $350–$750 | If a matching section is available |
| Single insulated section, installed | $450–$1100 | Foam-filled costs more |
| Bottom section plus new seal and threshold | $450–$1200 | Most common section job here |
| Two sections | $800–$2000 | Borderline — compare a new door |
| Repaint whole door after a section swap | $250–$700 | To deal with UV fade mismatch |
| Track straightening alongside | $150–$500 | Very common after vehicle impact |
| New insulated impact-rated door, 16×7 | $2600–$4800 | The comparison number |

Garage Door Panel Replacement — Questions We Get Asked
Can you replace just one panel?
Often yes — if a matching section is still manufactured, the rest of the door is sound, and the repair does not void a wind rating. It makes most sense after localised mechanical damage such as a vehicle impact, and far less sense when the section failed from age or corrosion, because its neighbours are in the same condition.
How much does panel replacement cost in Naples?
A single non-insulated steel section typically runs $380–$810 installed, and an insulated section $485–$1190. A bottom section with a new seal and threshold generally runs $485–$1295. Two sections land $865–$2160.
Will a new panel match my existing door?
Not always. Manufacturers discontinue models and change profiles, embossing and colour, so doors older than roughly ten to fifteen years often have no matching section. Even with a current model, Florida UV fades a door hard, so a new section beside old ones will look newer. Repainting the whole door afterwards is a legitimate option.
When should I replace the whole door instead?
When no matching section is made, when three or more sections are damaged, when the door is unrated and you want the wind rating and insurance credit, when the failure was corrosion rather than impact, or when the panel cost approaches half the price of a new rated door. We give you both numbers in writing.
Does replacing a panel affect my hurricane rating?
It can. A Florida Product Approval covers a specific assembly, so fitting a non-approved section can void the rating — which affects code compliance and your insurance wind mitigation credit. On a rated door we only fit sections covered by the same approval.
Why is the bottom of my door rusting?
Water sits along the bottom rail from driven rain, hose runoff and pressure-washing, and the rail is often a folded channel that traps moisture inside. It corrodes outward from where you cannot see it. It matters because the bottom section carries the bottom brackets, which are under direct cable tension — never touch those yourself.
